The former church was re-erected in 1773, on the site of a much older one. Bishop Mark held a synod in an older church at this place, on the 10th March 1291.

Near Oakhill is a new school-house, used as a chapel-of-ease to the parish of Braddan.

Also the one situated at Tromode, in the same parish.

An Act of Tynwald was passed on the 19th April 1742, to enable the Lord Bishop to exchange the glebe lands, vicarage-house, and gardens, for land belonging to Captain Edward Fletcher, called " Croit-y-killip," and to build a new vicarage-house, etc., thereon. Bishop Wilson contributed £15 towards the building.-See Mill's Statutes, pp. 269-273.

In February 1847, it was provided before the appointment of Mr. Drury, that any future appointment to the vicarage of Braddan, to be subject to such measures as may be hereafter enacted for dividing the parish, and erecting the town of Douglas into a separate parish.

In 1848 four acres of the estate of Ballafetcher were purchased for £400, to be used as an additional burial-ground for the parish.

The new parish church, erected by public subscriptions, was consecrated by the Bishop of Lichfield on the 31st August 1876.

ADMIRALTY, April 5, 1835. MY DEAR Bishop-I hope now very soon to be able to send your Floating Chapel round to Douglas. She is reported as nearly fit, and will be sent by a steamer who will bring away also her rigging, etc., which will not be required in her new office. It is distinctly to be understood that she is lent by the Admiralty as a Floating Chapel for the exclusive use of the Established Church. To be under the exclusive control of the bishop or superintending minister of the place. To be kept in repair, painted, etc., at the cost of the island (at least without cost to the Admiralty) ; and to be liable to be resumed by the Admiralty whenever the king's service may require. Trusting that she may be of use, and with much pleasure at having been able to meet your wishes, I remain, my dear bishop, your most affect., DE GREY.
