The schoolmaster of the parish has a glebe of 3½ acres. The old rectory house and garden are near the old parish church.

The old registers are in a very dilapidated condition, without binding or covers, and appear to have been copied from older registers. The Rev. Thomas Howard copied them many years ago very legibly into a bound book. The first entry is as follows-" A Register Book of Burialls made in ye year of our Lord God 1598, being the first year that I, Nicholas Thompson, came to Ballaugh Church to serve there myselfe."

To the old church Bishop Wilson, in 1717, made some additions. It was repaired in 1878 for occasional service. An Act of Tynwald was promulgated on the 20th Sep-tember 1830, for providing a new church and churchyard on part of the Quarterland of Ballaterson-beg.— Geneste's Statutes, pp. 57-59.

Near to this is the new rectory house, 1878.

GULIELMUS WALKER, LL.D.
Hujusce Ecclesiæ Rector
per annos xxv,
E Vicariis Generalibus
Nec non nobiliis. Domino a eonciliis,
Pastor, Judex, Civis,
Quo nemo fidelior, æquior,
aut boni publici studiosior,
Mansum omniaque rectoria
Edificia prorsus dilapsa
Per magno sumptu restauravit,
Obiit 18th Junii A.D. MDCCXXIX.
'Etat. XLIX.

This epitaph was composed by Bishop Wilson.

2 On a gravestone, in the old churchyard-

Sleeping in Jesus.
Translated hence the good man never dies
But like the day-star, only sets to rise.
The Rev. JAMES WILKS,
Rector of this parish and Vicar-General,
Aged 58 years, was buried June 21, 1777.

To him to live was Christ, to die was gain,
The sting of Death sweet consolation brings.
Hope: Anchor of the soul, allays his pain.
He meets his God with healing on His wings.
