THE THIRD BOOKE,
WHICH TREATETH OF YE ECCLESIASTICALL GOVERNMT OF YE ISLE OF MAN.

  

CHAPTER I.

OF YE FIRST CONVERSION OF YE ISLE OF MAN, AND BY WHOME; WTH A DISCOVERY OF MANY ERRONIUS PASSAGES IN HECTOR BOETIUS HIS HISTORY OF SCOTLAND.

 

OUR blessed Savior after his resurrection, gave a commandmt to all his apostles to goe and preach to all nations. St. Marke saith to all ye world, even to every creature.

Which it seemeth was by them pformed in less than 50 or 60 years, for St Paul (who lived not above 37 years after 0r Savior’s assention) saith ~ ye Roman faith was then renowned through all ye world ; and in his Epistle to ye Collossians’ he saith yt ye gospell was preached to all ye world, yea (in ye 23d verse), it was preached to every creature under heaven; yea, saith St Marke (xiii. 9, 10), ye gospehl was to be preached to all nations before any psecution should befall any of the apostles. Wee may then well confide yt some one of ye apostles preached in ye Island of Man (amongst ye rest of ye British Isles), seeing all assent y~ both ~ Peter and St. Paul were severally in England ; but I find no colour of
