Nulli ergo, etc. Datum Avinione vii. kal. Junii pontificatus nosti anno. vito.

Gregory, etc., to Our beloved son, Malcolm Ysaye, priest of the Sodor diocese, health, etc.

The goodness of your life and morals, and the other merits of your probity and virtues, in regard to which you are recommended to Us by the testimony of persons worthy of credence, induce Us to treat you with Apostolic favour. A petition was lately presented to Us upon your part to the effect that, when some time ago the parochial church of St. Moliwe in the Sodor diocese was vacant on account of the death of the late Donald Nigel rector of the said church, who ended his days without the Roman Court, Our beloved son, the nobleman John lord of the territory of Isla, of the said diocese, the true patron of the said parochial church, in peaceful possession (of the right) or of the quasi right of presenting the rector to the said church, pre-sented you, within the legitimate time, to Our venerable brother William Bishop of the Sodor diocese, for the said parochial church; that the abovenamed bishop in consequence of the presentation canonically instituted you as rector of the above named church ; provided that the apostolicæl reservations offered no obstacle, nor the fact that the said church, because the late Martin Martini rector of the said church without the existence of any lawful impediment and without having obtained canonical dispensa-tion did not take care to be promoted to the priesthood within the proper time, had become vacant, and had on that account been vacant for so long a time that in accordance with the Statutes of the Council of Lateran its collation had legitimately devolved on the Apostolic See ; and that you, on the strength of such presentation and institution, had obtained possession of the said parochial church, and have held and possessed it from that time, as you now hold and possess it, peacefully and quietly.

But whereas, as the same petition added, you are doubtful whether the said church at the time of the presentation or institution was not especially reserved to the disposal of the Apostolic See, or whether it had not become vacant on ac-count of the said Martin not having taken care to be promoted to the priesthood, as said above, and that on that account the collation of the above church had devolved on the said See in accordance with the above named Statutes, and that you might on that account in some future time be molested; We wishing on account of your above mentioned merits to treat you a member of the priesthood with favour, giving ear to your petition in this matter, with and by Apostolic authority grant to you that the aforesaid presentation and insti-tution, and whatsoever has taken place thereupon, be valid and of full effect as if from the date of these Presents, provided that the said Donald during his lifetime was not in Our domestic service, just as if no special reservation had been made of the said parochial church by the said See, or the said church had not become vacant on account of the said Martin not having taken care to be promoted to the priesthood, as mentioned above, and the collation of the said church on that account, in accordance with the aforesaid Statutes, had not devolved, as said above, upon the said See. Let no one, therefore, etc.

Given at Avignon, the 26th day of May, in the sixth year of Our Pontificate.
