HENRY III.-SAFE CONDUCT FOR REGINALD.

Rymer's Foedera, 1. i. 156.  

Rex omnibus ballivis et fidelibus suis has litteras inspecturis salutem. Sciatis nos suscepisse in salvum et securum conductum dilectum et fidelem nostrum Reginaldum Reg em de Man, et homines sues, quos secum duxerit, per totam potestatem nostram, in eundo versus terrain suam de Man. Et ideo vobis mandamus, firmiter pr~ecipientes, quod nee eidem Reginaldo Regi de Man, nec suis, malum, damnum, aut impedimentum aliquid faciatis, aut fieri permittatis. Durabit autem conductus iste usque ad instans natale Domini, anno regni nostri quarto. Et in hujus rei testi monium, etc. Teste domino Petro Wintoniensi episcopo, apud Novum Templum London, vicesirno quarto die Septembris, anno, etc. tertio.

The King, to all his bailiffs and faithful subjects who shall see this letter, greeting. Be it known to you that We have taken under our safe and secure conduct, throughout our entire realm, our beloved and faithful Reginald, King of Man, and the fol-lowers whom he shall have with him, in his journey towards his territory of Man. And therefore We strictly enjoin you neither to cause, nor suffer others to cause, any mischief, loss, or hin-drance, to the said Reginald, King of Man, or his followers. Moreover, this safe conduct will continue in force until the ensuing Christmas, in the fourth year of Our reign. And in testimony hereof, etc. Witness.-The Lord Peter, Bishop of Winchester, at the New Temple, London, the twenty-fourth day of September, in the third year, etc.
