 Earl of Warwick banished to Isle of Man, 1398

EARL OF WARWICK BANISHED TO THE ISLE OF MAN.-A.D. 1398.

AND afterwards our said Lord the King, moved with compassion, and the reverence and honour of God, and the prayer of the said Petitioner, and of the Commons of the said Parliament, and of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, has pardoned the said Earl of Warwick of the execution of the said Judgment of death, by decapitation and quartering, and has granted to him his life, and that he be kept in perpetual imprisonment without the Realm, in the Isle of Man, for the term of his life: upon this condition, that if he, or any for him in time to come, seek from the King or his heirs any further grace, or if he escape out of the place assigned to him to dwell in prison, that the said judgment of death be put in execution, and this reprieve held as void. And that he be to sea, on his passage towards the Isle of Man before the expiration of a month from this the 29th day of September, to dwell there for the term of his life in the manner aforesaid. And that he the said Earl of Warwick, be delivered to Sir William le Scrop, and Sir Stephen his brother, to carry him safely to the said Isle, and guard his body there, without letting the said Earl of Warwick depart from the said Isle

Et Apres nre dit Sr le Roy meovez de pitee, al Ereverence et honour de Dieu, et priere des ditz Appellantz et des Communes de dit Parlament, et de totrtz les autres Seignrs Espiritueles et Ternporeles, pardona a dit Counte de Warr' l' execution de dit Jugement de treiner, pendre, decoller, et quarterer, et luy graunta sa vie, et q'il demurervit en perpetual prison hors du Roialme en 1'Isle de Man pur terme de sa vie sur tiel condition, q fi il, ou aseun par luy, en temp a venir parsue au Roy on a ses heirs pur autre grace aver, ou s'il eschape hors del lieu a luy assigne pur sa demure en prison, qle dit Jugement de sa Mort soit mys en execution, et ceste grace soit tenuz pur nul. Et q'il soit a la mere sur son passage vers le dit Isle de Man devaunt la fyn d'un moys apres yceste XXIX jour de Septembre, a demurer illeoqes pur terene de sa vie, en la fourme suis dite. Et sur ceo, le dit Counte de Warr' fuist deliverez a Mon`sr William le Serop, et a Mon'sr Estevene son frere, pur luy saufment amesner vers le dit Isle, et luy garder corps pur corps illeoqes, saunz lesser le dit Counte de Warr' departier hors de dit Isle.
