RESPECTING THE ARREST OF MALEFACTORS (OR ENEMIES) OF THE ISLE OF MAN. A.D. 1311.

THE King to all his bailliffs, ministers, and faithful subjects in England to whom, etc., greeting. Since we have understood that very many malefactors of the Isle of Man, who, adhering to the party of Robert de Brus our enemy and betrayer, have effected much damage upon us and our faithful subjects in England, are tarrying as well within the liberties, as without, and are there received. We, desiring to check their insolence, command you to arrest without delay all malefactors of this kind, whose names our beloved and faithful Gilbert Mac Askel shall signify to you, wheresoever they shall be found in your bailliage, within the liberty or without, and to cause them to be safely kept in our prison, until ye shall receive further commands from us. In testimony, etc.

Witness the King at Berewick upon Twede, the 16th day of December.

By writ of privy seal.

Similar letters are addressed to the bailliffs, etc., in Ireland, and to the bailliffs, etc., in Wales.

Witness as above. By writ of privy seal.
