RESPECTING THE HEARING AND DETERMINING OF COMPLAINTS OF THE MEN OF THE ISLE OF MAN.

A.D. 1292,

THE King to his beloved and faithful Nicholas de Segrave senior, Osbert de Spalding, and John de Suthewell, greeting. Know that we have appointed you our Justices, to hear and determine the complaints of all and singular the people of the Isle of Man, complaining of whatsoever trespasses and injuries are done to them, as well both by our bailiffs and ministers, as others in the aforesaid Island, and to do full and speedy justice to the parties thereof, according to the law and custom of that place. And therefore we command you, that on certain days and places that etc. in the aforesaid Island you hear and determine these complaints in the form aforesaid. Done etc. Saving etc. For we command our keeper of the aforesaid Island, that on certain etc [days] in the Island aforesaid, he cause to come before you so many and such etc. In which etc. Witness the King at Berewick 15th day of July.

DE QUERELIS HOMINUM INSULÆ DE MAN AUDIENDIS ET TERMINANDIS, ETC.

ROTULORUM PATENTIUM.

20 ED I

EX dileetis et fidelibus suis Nicholao de Segrave seniori, Osberto de Spaldington, et Johanni de Suthewell, salutem. Sciatis quod assignavimus vos Justiciarios nostros ad querelas omnium et singulorum de Insula de Man se conqueri volentium de quibuscunque transgressionibus et injuriis eis per quòscuncjue tam ballivos et ministros nostros quam aliosin prædicta Insula illatis audiendas et terminandas et ad plenam et celerem justitiam partibus inde faciendam secundum legem et consuetudinem partium illarum. Et ideo vobis mandamus quod ad certos dies et loca quos etc. in Insula prædicta querelas illas audiatis et terminetis in forma prædicta. Facturi etc. Salvis etc. Mandavimus enim custodi nostro Insulæ prædictæ quod ad certos etc. in Insula prædicta venire faciat coram vobis tot et tales etc. In cujus etc. Teste Rege apud Berewyk, xv. die Julii.
