DECLARING THAT THE COMPETITORS BRUCE AND BALLIOL HAD SO CONCLUDED THEIR PLEADINGS THAT THE KING MIGHT PROCEED TO JUDGMENT.

WHEREAS the very noblePrince, our Lord Edward, by the grace of God King of England and Sovereign Lord of Scotland, for Monsieur Sire Eric . . . . John de B [alliol] . . . . Roger de Maundeville laid claim . the Kingdom of Scotland, each for his sovereignty, as his right, or for divers rights, and for divers reasons . . . [Ed]ward King of England or Sovereign Lord of Scotland, at Berwick on Tweed, gave assent . for Florence, Count of Holland, and for all the other claimants aforesaid, that the right of the claim of the Kingdom of Scotland be brought to trial, between Robert de Brus . . . . all other claimants to show and try after the right of law, between the aforesaid Robert and John.
