EXCURSION TO BALLARAGH AND CORNA, 26 JULY, 1923,

Leader, MISS MONA DOUGLAS.

About 40 members and friends met at Ballarragh at 11-15, and walked over Slieu Ruy and Slieu Ouyr, dropping into the Cornaa valley at the disused lead mine called 'North Laxey.' Thence the old mine road to the Corrany was followed, some interesting plants (including Luss-ny-Graih, the Sundew, Drosera rotundifolia) being noted by the way. The walk was continued to Glen Mona. Along the route various places mentioned in Manx folk-lore and song were pointed out by the leader. Among these were the localities of the song, 'Ny Kirree fo Niaghtey,' such as 'Braid Farrane Fing,' a deep gully in the hillside, and 'Coan ny Chistey,' a huge natural hollow in the form of a chest.

A meeting was held in the Church Room at the Dhoon, Rev. J. Davidson, J.P., presiding. Miss Douglas read a paper on 'Animals in Manx Folk-lore and Song.' Mrs. A, Robertson, Douglas, was elected a member.

The gift, by Mr. H. S. Clarke, of a large cabinet for entomological specimens, was announced. Mr. Clarke desired that the cabinet, which had belonged to the late Mr. Birchall, should be a souvenir of his office as President of the Society.
