Institution
for the
Relief of the Poor of Douglas and the Suppression of Mendicity

 

The Gentlemen's Committee of the Society for the Relief of the Poor of Douglas and the Suppression of Mendicity, being anxious to obtain every possible information, publish the following list of persons receiving aid from the Society; to afford every subscriber an opportunity of making his remarks respecting any person or persons whose names are inserted therein. And the Committee particularly required that subscribers as may have observations to make to persons whose cases the Committee may not have been able to investigate sufficiently, will attend at the Poor House on Thursday in each week, that the Committee may have the benefit of their communications ; and they at the same time, invite others professedly interested in the welfare of the poor, to attend on those days when the Committee, in order to prevent, as far as is in their powers, any erroneous or ignorant statements from injuring the cause they have in hand, will be happy to give to any proper applicant, every information as to their proceedings and to receive and adopt any suggestions as may be consistent with the nature of the institution.

NB The Committee request the subscribers to give them information of any paupers seen employed in street begging..
