WW1 Internees - Carl Frederick Luft

Carl Fredrick Luft + wife Edith appear on list of Alien residents from March 1919 though Edith had appeared on earlier lists but with no mention of her husband - in 1919 at 14 St George's St Douglas and later at 61 Circular Road, Douglas - it would appear that his son Private Charles F Luft, Kings Liverpool Regiment with family address 14 St George's St Douglas was killed in action on 27 Sept 1918. Carl is buried age 58 on 13 Sep 1929 with Edith age 57 in 1931. Carl, proprietor of the Castle Arms, Castletown was still at liberty in March 1915 noted as being a Past Master of the Lodge of Mona (Freemasons, Castletown) at the funeral of Thomas Clague. He is noted as Internee K5412, in Camp 1 Hospital at Knockaloe as of November 1915 - it is possible he was later transferred to another camp.

Two other resident aliens noted on 31st Dec 1917 were Gabriel Denen at 29 Castle Street Douglas and August Moore at Town Hall, Port St. Mary.
