A statement (by ?) of the Duke's relations with Mr. P.J.Heywood - the latter's failure to furnish accounts, and evasions when called upon to do so by the Duke, who came specially to Douglas in July 1787,bringing with him his Edinburgh agent (Mr.Farquhar) - to try and reach a settlement. Heywood,after much pressure, produced A/cs which showed the Duke to be owing him £607.5.5 (See No.9 above) These, however,could not be accepted,and Mr.Farquhar recast them with the result that Heywood was found to be £3,043 Manks in debt to the Duke (See No.10 above) Heywood then, in part payment,gave the Duke a bond,secured on Govt. Stock,for £2,006 and a Bill from his brother Robert for £536 (which together equalled the £3,043 Manks which was owing). The Statement then proceeds to analyse and criticise the A/cs, pointing out the many improper charges which were included.

Mr.Callow to Deemster and Mr.Farquhar (at Ballasalla) saying that he has come,at Mr. Quayle's request,to pay the sum due by him to the Duke as settled by the Court in the case brought against him by the Duke and Buchess a few years ago. But finding nobody at home he leaves this note to explain matters and say he will be glad to call again if an appointment can be made.
