McCrone to Duke. The Bishop and his family have been forced to leave Bishopscourt and,travelling by a circuitous and under armed escort,have sought refuge at Castle Mona. The civil authorities give no help and it is evidently them against the Duke and his supporters.

McCrone to Duke. No mail having arrived for a week it is not known if assistance may be expected from England. Minor rioting still going on but nothing very serious. There can be no doubt that certain members of the Keys are at the bottom of all the mischief,but every effort will be made to prevent a proper enquiry being made. Until more troops arrive however no one in the employ of the Duke or the Bishop will be safe. Cutting from the Manx Sun,with a report of the Lt.Gov.'s speech to the Keys enclosed.

The lime quarries are not properly leased,and marble belonging to the Duke is being cut and exported without his permission,no remedy being obtainable. See letter [AP_49(2nd)_49] from the High Bailiff of Castletown. Smyth is pressing for payment for his surveys,but this is being held back as some of them appear to be incorrect.
