Leece & Drinkwater to Duke sending oranges,lemons,apples, cucumbers and potatoes. They can dispose of some lead if it can be shipped at Douglas,but buyers are not willing to accept shipment from Port St.Mary,where it is difficult. They hope to sell the "Letharage" tomorrow. They point out the disadvantages of the shortage of small change in the Island and if permitted would be glad to strike a supply of pence and halfpence and get them into circulation. It is recommended that in future the silver should be run into smaller plates,but every effort should we made to push production of it from the Laxey mines. With this letter is a small specimen of silver in a sealed envelope.

Mr.Whaley to Duke complaining of actions taken against him by Mr.Norris Moore,for which he could get no redress. Coming with his wife from Ireland in a hired yacht the boat had seen seized,as also his carriages and horses and the contents of his lodgings in Douglas,while his private papers had been examined and himself insulted and threatened with imprisonment in Castle Rushen. This was all done on the pretext that he owed a gambling debt of £700 to Mr. Blacker,a clothier of Dublin,who had bought his promissory note. He had not been aware of this,nor had he been asked for the money,though he had seen Blacker recently.
He was also annoyed that a case of rings belonging to Mrs.Whaley,valued at £3,000,had been carriecd about Douglas in the hands of a common Bailiff,and valued at £40. He prayed the Duke to help him get matters settled.
