The EXAMINATION The EXAMINATION of THOMAS MOORE, Esq. Deemster of the Isle of Man, taken on the 26th Day of September, 1791, at Douglas.

[Examined by the Duke of Atholl]

THIS Examinant saith, that he was in Trade in the Isle of Man from 1751 to 1736 ; he quitted Trade in 1756; between 1756 and 1765, to his Knowledge Silks purchased at the India House in London, and Silks from Spain, to a considerable Amount, were landed. in the Isle of Man without paying the Duties due to the Duke of Atholl.

That great Quantities of Teas in the Winter, 1764 or the Spring, 1765 prior to the Re. vestment of the Island, were likewise landed without paying Duties ; and he saw great Quantities of Teas piled up in the Parlour of his House near Ballysally, which was then uninhabited, which had not paid the Duties.
