LEZAYRE.

LEZAYRE. with Glenauldyn and Sulby, in the Sheading of Ayre, measures seven miles in length from north to south, and five from east to west. It is bounded on the east by the sea, Maughold, and Lonan ; on the south by Braddon; on the west by Jurby, Ballaugh and Michael; and on the north by Andreas and Bride. The southern portion of the parish is extremely mountainous and romantic. Ascending the beautiful Glenauldyn, on the right is Skye hill, mantled with larch and fir of varied hue; on the left Albert mount crowned with its noble Commemoration Tower, with stately Barrule in the background; while in the distance, in front, is the majestic Snaefel from the summit of which can be seen in clear weather the surrounding shores of England, Scotland, Ireland,, and Wales :-the only view of the kind to be met with in the British dominions. On the way is passed several charming bits of scenery in Fern Glen, the Manx Niagara, and several smaller waterfalls, amply rewarding the tourist, excursionist, or resident possessed of an appreciative mind for the beautiful in nature, for the rather toilsome ascent. The northern portion of the parish is composed of fine rich land. very productive and wen cultivated, and has appropriately been designated, as the name Lezayre signifies in Manx, the "garden of the island." The parish church, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, is situated two miles west from Ramsey, on a slight elevation at the west base of Skye hill, and is embosomed in stately trees. The living is a vicarage in the gift of the Crown, and held by the Rev. A. A. Bridgman. There are chapels of ease at Sulby and Bowring road, Ramsey. The Wesleyans have chapels at Glenauldyn and Sulby. The Primitive Methodists have also a chapel in this parish.
