Extract from the Will of Thomas Quayle, A. D. 1788.

 

" And whereas my late deed. brother, Philip Quayle, did oftentimes in his lifetime mention that he meant to bequeath unto the poor of the parish of Lonan aforesd. the sum of twenty pounds, but having died intestate, the said intended bequest was never made, and I, the said Thomas Quayle, being desirous that my said deceased brother's intention should be carried into execution, and being also willing to leave the further sum of twenty pounds unto them myself,-I do therefore give and bequeath unto the poor of the said parish of Lonan the sum of forty pounds aforesaid, to be laid out at interest for their use, by the Vicar and Wardens of the said parish, for the time being, for ever,- and that at the distribution of the said interest, the proprietor of the estate of Ballagare aforesaid, for the time being, is to have a voice or vote."

Extract from the Will of Jane Clague, A. D. 1804.

" I leave and bequeath to the Vicar and Wardens of Kk Lonan, in trust for the poor, my Mortgage upon Glen Gowan, in Kirk Lonan aforesaid, being from John Woods to my now deceased husband, Thomas Clague, and now my right, the principal money being twelve pounds, with the arrears of interest, costs, and charges, five years interest and upwards being now due thereon. I leave to the proprietor of of the said estate of Ballavarane, a coverlid, a blanket, a stool, and a bolster, in trust for the use of any poor person or persons as may have want for lodging occasionally." Mem. in Parochial Register, Jany. 7,1809, " Mrs. Clague's legacy to the poor of £12. 6s. currency, was this day given to James Scarff and George Cain, on their joint note, bearing interest," &c
