In the foregoing extracts from Wills, the following Bequests to the poor of the parish are contained, exclusive of Mr. John Thompson's in the South Sea Annuities, and Mr. Wm. Murray's Rent-charge on Port-e chee.

Extract from the Will of Deemster Robt. Quayle, A. D. 1643.

" To the poor I give and bequeath tenne pounds, to be putt into the hands of such persons from tyme to tyme as my Exor. and Overseer shall think fit, to the end, that yearlie there may arise thereof a reason able sum to be distributed to four or five of the poorest and most needle within the Parish of Kk Braddan, and after the death of my Exor. and Overseer, my will is that the care of setting out and disposing of this money shall belong and be disposed of by them that are tenants of Ballaquayle."

The above Bequests, after several investments, were finally scoured in a Mortgage from William Hampton, for £80 Mx. on land in Braddan, dated 2 April, 1796, and renewed by Thomas Stowell, Esq. on 30 March, 1817, bearing int. at 6 per cent.

 

Margt. Kelly, Ballacubbon,

Bequeathed to the poor of the parish ten pounds Mx. to be placed at interest.

A Promissory Note for this Bequest passed by Matthew Creer, Ballamoddoy, dated 28 May, 1812, interest at 5 per cent.

 

Christopher Watterson, A. D. 1798,

Bequeathed three pounds Mx. to the poor of the Parish.

To this Bequest the Wardens added three pounds ten shillings Mx., derived from an unknown Bequest, and the amount £6 10s. Od. Mx. was lent to John Kelly, Marown, on his Promissory Note, dated 20 Augt., 1811, bearing int. at the rate of 5 per cent.

John Kelly, Algare,

Bequeathed three pounds to the poor of the parish.

To this Bequest ten shillings were added by the Wardens, and the amt. £3 10s. 0d. Brit. lent to Robt. Hampton, on his Promissory Note, dated 24 Feby., 1824, bearing int. at the rate of 6 per cent.

Robt. Creer and Wife, ~whallon, A. D. 1806,

Bequeathed fourteen pounds twelve shillings Brit. to the poor of the parish.

The amt. of this Bequest lent to Matt. Creer, of Ballamoddoy, on his Promissory Note, dated 9 Jany., 1823, bearing int. at the rate of 5 per cent.

 

Extract from the Will of Cath. Kelly, Ballaquine, A. D. 1813.

" I leave and bequeath unto the poor of the parish of Kk Braddan, the sum of five pounds Brit., to be laid out at interest for their use."

 

Extract from the Will of Wm. Cowley, Aireyween, A.D. 1821.

" I leave and bequeath to the Vicar and Wardens of Braddan, in Trust, for the time being, the sum of five pounds Mx., to be by them put to interest upon sufficient security, and the interest to be by them divided amongst the poor of the parish of Braddan annually."

The amt. of these two Bequests, £10 Brit., lent to William Joughin, on his Promissory Note, dated 2 Sepr., 1824, bearing interest at the rate of 6 per cent.

 

Extract from the Will of Margt. Craine, of Douglas, Spinster, A. D. 1819.

" I leave and bequeath unto three of the poorest objects in the parish of Kk. Braddan, the yearly interest of one hundred pounds, from and after my decease for ever; but upon special confidence nevertheless that my body be buried and interred within the walls of the said Parish Church. If this be permitted, I shall leave the said interest to be so paid to the said three objects for ever as aforesaid. But in case the said privilege shall not be granted, then the said interest is only to be paid to the said poor objects for ten years, commencing three months after my decease: and after the said period of ten years, the said interest is to be paid to and for the use of the before mentioned Charity School, (the Daily and Sunday School,) of the town of Douglas, for ever, in the manner and for the purposes before mentioned. Which said interest, while it is to be paid to the said poor objects, is to be recd. by the Vicar and Wardens of the said parish, from and out of my mortgage in the said estate of Ballabrooie, and by them faithfully applied, agreeably to the desire of this Will; which said principal money is to be placed from time to time at proper and sufficient land security for ever. This interest money is not to be paid to two of one family. As one of those objects dieth, another to be placed in their stead by the Vicar and Wardens of the said parish."

This Bequest secured by a Mortgage from P. Simpson, on the estate of Baldromma, in Lonan, dated 2~ April, 1826, bearing int. at the rate of 5 per eent.

 

Extract from the Will of Thos. Watterson, A. D. 1819.

" To the poor of the parish of Kk Braddan, I do will and bequeath the sum of five pounds Brit. to be placed at interest for their use."

The wife of the said Thos. Watterson bequeathed the like sum of five pounds Brit. to the poor of the parish.

The amt. of these Bequests, viz. £10 Brit., lent to Jno. Watterson, Tramode, on his Promissory Note, date 12 Jany., 1822, bearing interest at the rate of 6 per eent.

 

Extract from the Will of Wm. Killey, Schoolmaster, Baldwin, A. D. 1820.

" I leave and bequeath unto the Vicar and Wardens of Braddan, in trust, for the time being, the sum of twenty pounds Brit., to be by them put to interest upon sufficient security, and the interest to be by them divided amongst the poor of the said parish annually."

The amt. of this Bequest lent to John Quayle, John Kneale, and Wm. Clague on their Promissory Note, dated 5 Deer., 1821, bearing int. at the rate of 6 per cent.

 

Extract from the Will of Claret. Corkkill, A. D. 1822.

"I leave and bequeath unto the poor of the parish of Braddan, the whole of that money, together with the interest that shall be due thereon to me, as per Note from John Cain, of the Booiley-vane."

The above mentioned Note, dated 3 April, 1819, principal two pounds ten shillings Brit., bearing int. at the rate of 6 per eent.
