Archdeacon Wills 1816 #70, Lezayre, of Christian Corlett:

"The last will of Christian Corlett of the Parish of KK Christ Lezayre. First, I leave to my niece Ann Tear seven pounds seven shillings British, and apart of the said sum to be accounted with her the said Ann Tear, for the legacy left her by my father and mother, I leave her my best feather bed, one bolster, two pillows, two blankets, two quilts and bit chest. Secondly, I leave Cathrine Quayle as legacy eight pounds eight shillings British and all my Sunday clothes. Thirdly, I leave on my Executrix to give my brother Charles Corlett two new shirts after my decease. Lastly, I nominate and appoint my niece Cathrin Kneale wife of William Kneale Executor of all the rest of my goods moveable and immoveable whatsoever kind, as witness my name and mark this 30th October 1816: [signed her mark] Christian Corlett. Witnesses: Ann Corlett, Thomas Corlett.

At xxx Court holden at Lezayre July 5th 1816: The Executrix’s husband William Kneale is this day sworn in Court in form of Law and has given pledges for the payment of debts and legacies, names Thomas Corlett of Lezayre and William Nelson of Ramsey.

To the Revd. Thomas Cubbon, Vicar General &c., The humble petition of William Kneal of the parish of KK Andreas: Sheweth, that Christian Corlett lately departed this life but previous to her demise made her last will and testament wherein and whereby she nominated and appointed your Petitioner and Catharine his wife sole and whole Executors of her last will and testament and that your Petitioner duly attended this day (12th June 1816) at the Courthouse in Ramsey to get said Will established according to custom at an Ecclesiastical holden in Ramsey this day Charles Corlett of the said parish of KK Andrews objected against said will being taken in alleging that he the said Charles Corlett had a right to all the said goods and effects belonging to the said Christian Corlett which the Revd. Court xxxx as an objection against said Will; Your Petitioner therefore prays that your Reverence would be graciously pleased to xxx this matter to your most xxx consideration and grand your authority to charge said Charles Corlett and the witnesses of said will and after hearing the same your Reverence xxx may be pleased to swear your Petitioner Executor of the last will and testament of the said Christian Corlett and if the said Estate is indebted to the said Charles Corlett your petitioner will xxx pledges to be answerable for the same with xxxx other relief as your Rev. may grant your Petitioner, and xxx will pray &c, &c.

Ordered that this Petition do come on to be heard at an Ecclesiastical Court to be holden at Laxey on Friday the next Instant whereof all proper parties and persons are to have due notice. Given this 13th June 1816, Thomas Cubbon.

At an Ecclesiastical Court held at Laxey the 21 june 1816: The Defendants having alleged in Court this day that he could not with propriety allow the matter in the Petition contained to be gone unto and he therefore moved to have the same xxended the same is therefore hereby xxended accordingly and this xxxx is in the meantime until the 5 July next continued when the Defendant is to come xxxxx in the sufficient sureties, that he will pay such costs and charges as may be awarded to the xxxation of the Will in this Petition mentioned."
