Archdeacon Will 1802, #7 of Ann Oates als Christian, wife of James Oates of Glencruttery, Braddan:

"In the name of God Amen. I Ann Oates otherwise Christian wife of James Oates formerly of Glencruttery in the parish of KK Braddan, but now of the town of Douglas, being at present of sound and disposing mind and memory, but calling to mind the uncertainty of this mortal life, do in order to prevent any disputes amont my family after my decease and to preserve the harmony that has hitherto subsisted among them, make and ... this my last will and testament as follows: First, I commend my soul to the mercies of God trusting to obtain remission of all my sins for the sake and through the merits of Jesus Christ and my body I direct to be decently buried in the burying ground of our families at the direction of my executor and executrix hereafter mentioned. Item: I give and bequest unto my sons George and William the sum of one shilling British each as Legacy. Item: to my daughter Ann Moore: I give the sum of one guinea as legacy. Item: to my daughter Elizabeth Oates I give and bequeath the one half or my share of the sum of one hundred and twenty pounds British for which she has given her obligation. Item: I give divise and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my goods, credit, chattles and effects of whatever denomination unto my loving husband James Oates, whom I also appoint sole executor of this my last will and testament, but if it shall so happen that my said beloved husband James Oates shall die before me the testatrix, then and in that case I give devise and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of goods credits chattles and effects of whatever denomination unto my daughter Elizabeth Oates whom I also appoint sole executrix and residuary legatee of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this sixth day of June 1791. [signed] Ann Oates. Witness: Jn Cannell & Henry Moore.

At a Chapter Court holden at Douglas June 22nd 1802, the executor is sworn in form of law and hath given pledges. . ."
