Archdeacon Wills 1800 #30, Malew, of Thomas Quay of Mill street in Castletown:

‘In the name of God, Amen. I Thomas Quay of Millstreet in Castletown, being of sound mind, memory and understanding and taking into consideration the uncertainty of this transitory life, do make my last will and testament in manner following. First, I commit my soul to Almighty God and my body to be decently buried. Also, I leave and bequeath to the Church Wardens of Castletown district the sum of two pounds to be distributed amongst the poor of the said town as soon as conveniently may be after my decease. Also, I leave and bequeath to each of my nephews and nieces the children of Mary Walkington my late sister deceased the sum of fifteen pounds. Also, I leave and bequeath to my niece Isable Garret otherwise Bell the sum of seventy five pounds. Also, I leave to my niece Margaret Kelly otherwise Bell the sum of thirty pounds. Also, I leave and bequeath to Isable wife of William Gell of the said town the sum of fifteen pounds. Also, I leave and bequeath to Catherine Kewn widow the sum of twenty shillings. Also, I leave and bequeath unto Jane Corlett widow my servant and housekeeper the sum of twenty five pounds together with the half or moiety of all my household goods, furniture and effects in and --- of my house not included, cash or securities for the same. Also, I leave and bequeath to my nephew John Bell all my house and lands whatsoever and wheresoever subject to the life estate of his mother Margaret Bell widow, and also to the life estate of Jane Corlett widow in a part there of and settled upon her by a deed of this ---. And lastly, I do nominate and appoint my said sister Margaret Bell widow and the said John Bell her son executors of this my last will and testament and residuary legatees of all the residue of my goods and effects whatsoever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my name the 1st day of March 1797. [signed] Thomas Quay. Witnesses: James Gelling, Robert Gelling, Frances Slater, John Lace.

At a Chapter Court holden at Castletown June 19th, 1800, the executors are sworn in Court in form of Law and also to be true and just the one to the other in the division of the effects and have given pledges for the payment of debts and legacies namely James Gelling and Robert Gelling the witnesses. Robert Williams husband of Isabel Walkington one of the nieces of the within Testator Thomas Quay does hereby acknowledge to have received the sum of fifteen pounds the said sum being a legacy bequeathed to my said wife Isabel Walkington by the last will and testament of her uncle Thomas Quay and I do hereby release, acquit, exonerate and discharge the executors of the last will and testament of said Thomas Quay of all claims and demands forever out of the said legacy of fifteen pounds as witness my hand this 12th day of September 1801. Received from John Bell the executor of the last will of Thomas Quay the sum of twenty five pounds --- with the one half of his the said Thomas Quay’s goods as bequeathed me by the said Thomas Quay’s will dated the 1st day of March 1797, and I do hereby allow the said legacies to be cancelled upon the Episcopal Registry according to Law to which I bind myself, my executors, administrators and assigns. As witness my subscription this 22 Sep 1801. [signed her mark] Jane Corlett.

Received from John Bell executor of the will of Thomas Quay dated 1st March 1797, twenty shillings being a legacy bequeathed me by the said Thomas Quay and I do allow the same to be canceled upon record according to Law as witness my mark to my name this 22nd day of Sept 1801. Received from John Bell the sum of forty shillings being a legacy bequeathed by the will of Thomas Quay of Castletown dated 2 January 1800, for the use of the poor of Castletown and we do allow the same to be canceled upon the Ecclesiastical Books as witness our subscriptions this 7th April 1801. [signed] Patrick Quirk, Danl Quine, Wardens.

Received from the hands of John Bell of Castletown the sum of fifteen pounds currency of this Isle, being a legacy bequeathed me by the last will of Thomas Quay of the said town of Castletown now deceased and of which said will the said John Bell is executor, and do hereby say and allow the said legacy to be --- --- and canceled upon the Eccliastical or Episcopal Registry according to law as witness my subscription this 3rd February 1801. [signed] Thomas Walkington.

Whereas it appears by the last will and testament of Thomas Quay of Millstreet, deceased, that there is a legacy of fifteen pounds bequeathed to John Walkington nephew to the said Thomas Quay as by the said will dated the 1st day of March 1797, may appear now, know all men by these presence that I the said John Walkington do hereby acknowledged to have received from John Bell executor of the said will the said sum of fifteen pounds and do allow that the same may be canceled upon the Episcopal Registry according to Law, as witness my subscription this 2nd day of August 1802. [signed] John Walkington.

I do hereby acknowledge to have received from the hands of John Bell executor of the last will and testament of Thomas Quay of Castletown the sum of fifteen pounds currency of this Isle be in full for my legacy left me in the said will of the said Thomas Quay and do hereby allow this receipt to be in full as sufficient to cancel any further claims, of the said legacy upon the Episcopal Registry of the said Isle, as witness my subscription this 19th day of February 1801. [signed his mark] Philip Gell [or Gale].

Received from John Bell the executor of the last will and testament of Thomas Quay the sum of fifteen pounds, being a legacy bequeathed me by the said Thomas Quay by his last will dated the 1st day of March 1797, and I do hereby allow the same to be canceled and the same to stand paid unto me to which payment I do acknowledge and against any further claim I bind myself, my heirs, executors and assigns under the penalty of thirty pounds, as witness my mak to my name this 22nd day of Sept 1801. [signed his mark] William Gell.

I do hereby acknowledge to have received from the hands of John Bell executor of the last will and testament of Thomas Quay of Castletown, the sum of thirty pounds currency of this Isle, being in full for my legacy bequeathed me in the said will of the said Thomas Quay. And I do hereby allow this receipt to be in full and sufficient to cancel the further payment of the said legacy upon the Episcopal Registry of the said Isle. As witness my subscription this 19th of January 180-. [signed] Thomas Kelly.

I do hereby acknowledge to have received from the hands of John Bell executor of the last will and testament of Thomas Quay of Castletown the sum of twenty five pounds currency of this Isle, being in full for my legacy bequeathed me in the said will of the said Thomas Quay and I do hereby allow this receipt to be in full and sufficient to cancel the further payment of the said legacy upon the Episcopal Registry of the Isle as witness my subscription or mark this 9th of March 1803.
