Archdeacon Wills 1788 #22, Arbory, of James Radcliffe, died 11 Dec 1787:

‘This is affirmed to be the last will and testament of James Ratcliff of the parish of KK Arbory and wrote within the space of time committed by law, who departed this life on the 11th day of December 1787, being weak in body but of a perfect sound mind and memory at the making thereof. First, he committed his soul to God and his body to Christian burial. Item, he left and bequeathed the bed he lay in unto his loving wife. Item, he left all his carpenters tools to his son Richard Rattcliff. Item, he left all his concerns of houses and lands unto his wife aforesaid during her natural life. Item, he left also his concerns of houses and lands aforesaid unto his son Richard Rattcliff at the death of his wife aforesaid. Item, he left unto his grandson Richard Clague five shillings. Lastly, he nominated constituted and appointed his loving son Richard Rattcliff aforesaid to be whole and sole executor of all the rest of his goods moveable and immoveable, debarring all his daughters with six pence legacy apiece in the presence of Witnesses: Henry Cubbin, John Clague.

At a Chapter Court holden at Castletown October 16, 1788, the executor is sworn in Court in form of Law and hath given pledges for the payment of debts and legacies namely the witnesses of the will. The widow consents that her right of the concerns of houses and lands shall descend to her son Richard after her decease.’
