Douglas
This is the last will and testament
of me Francis Lasnon of Douglas, shopkeeper
made and published by me the twenty-ninth
day of September in the year of our Lord one
thousand seven hundred and eighty-eight
whereby I revoke and make void all
former wills by me at any time heretofore
made. I desire that my body may
be decently interred in Kk Onchan churchyard
at the upper end or north side thereof
and I give devise & bequeath unto
the chaplain and wardens of
Douglas aforesaid for the time being and their successors
for ever all that my new built house
and yard in Douglas aforesaid with
the appurtances in trust that they
do and shall demise and let the same and
pay one half of the clear rent yearly and
every year unto Isabella Curren daughter
of James Curren of Douglas mariner during her
natural life ; and the other half of the said
yearly rent yearly and every year
unto Jane Grandin daughter of Stephen Gradin
of Douglas (my god-daughter) during her
natural life. And my will is that
during the minority of the said Isabella
Curren, her moity of the said rent shall
be paid to James Curphy of Douglas aforesaid
labourer to be by him applied towards the
maintenance and education of the said Isabella
Curran ; and that during the minority
of the said Jane Grandin, her moity of the
said rent shall be paid to the said Stephen
Grandin to be by him applied to and for
the maintenance and education of the said
Jane Grandin, and after the death
of the said Isabella Curren and jane
Gradin my will is that my said trustees
do and shall distribute the clear yearly
rent of the sd premises for ever (after
deducting all necessary outgoing and
repairs) to and amongst the poor of
Douglas, in such payments and in
such manner and at such time as
my said trustees shall think proper
and in case of the death of either of them
the said Isabella Curren and Jane Grandin
before the other, my will is that the
decadent's moiety of the said rent shall
be distributed amongst the said poor as
aforesaid ; and my will is that this be
called Lasnon's Charity. And I give and
bequeath unto Daniel Croaghan ten pounds
British and to Robert Fayle son
of Paul Fayle of Douglas aforesaid Fidler
the sum of ten pounds British, which
I will and direct may be paid by my
executors herein after mentioned in putting
the said Robert Fayle apprentice and
I give and bequeath unto Thomas and
James Curphy sons of the aforesaid James
Curphy labourer, ten pounds British
a piece, and to John and James Gell
sons of Isabella Gell of Douglas aforesaid
widow five pounds British a piuece
which I will and direct
may be paid by my said executors in
putting the said John and james Gell
apprentices And I give and bequeath
the sum of one shilling British unto
Judith Curren my late house-keeper
and my will is that the said sums &
legacies be paid by my said executors
as soon as conveniently maybe. And
I leave all the rest of my estate
whatsoever and wherever unto John
Quilliam of Douglas aforesaid weaver
and the said James Curphy labourer
whom I appoint executors. And
I do herby declare that in case it shall 
appear that the chaplain and wardens
aforesaid cannot legally take under
the devise made to them in trust as
aforesaid; my will is that my
executors their heirs Exors admors and
assigns shall take and stand seized
and possessed of the premisses so willed
to the said Chaplain and wardens
in trust for the poor of Douglas as
aforesaid, and with the aforesaid
power of distribution. In witness
whereof I have unto set my hand and
seal at Douglas aforesaid

The exors are sworn in court in form of law []
as also to be true & just each to the other in
the division of the Residuum of the
testator's estate and have given pledges for the payment
of debts and legacies namely John
Christian and John Skelly both of Douglas

Extensive Inventory - amounting to £123 5s - mostly cloth of various sorts but also including
1 fishing yawl & oars 0 15 0
1 decked boat (taken out of the harbour by James Cottier) with her materiels one punt --- (no value given)

Also included is a copy of deed of sale of the house
Know all men by these presents that I Sarah
Pickman widdow diverse good causes & considerations
me hereunto moveing but more especially for and in
consideration of the sum of twenty six pounds five
shillings Brit to me paid in manner following by Mr
Francis Lasnon of the town of Douglas merchant to say
the sum of twelve pounds twelve shillings Brit to me
already paid & the further sum of thirteen pounds thirteen
shillings Brit to be paid me by the sd Francis
Lasnon at the signing & executing of these presents
have given granted alienated passed over and
sold & by these presents doth give grant aliene
pass over & for ever absolutely sell unto the sd Francis
Lasnon his heirs & assigns of all that & those my
right title interest & property that I have in & unto a
certain parcell of intack on the sand side of Douglas
which was bought by my husband Alexdr Pickeman
from Christopher Callow & Margt Callow alias Corlet
his wife by deed bearing the date the first of May 1760
containing twenty one yards in front facing the street
to the west that passes by Ed Moore's garden & joyning
Lewis Genest's lott of the same kind to the south to the north
with Nichs Christian's rent & eastwards down to the sea fifty
yards ....
