At a consistory court holden at St Johns Chapel
the 11th of August 1784
William Kelly (Gracey) of the town of Douglas boatman
having departed the sd port of Douglas aforesd in a small
boat bound to Ridland [sic ?] in North Wales upwards of
ten weeks ago and a storm coming on, on the evening of the
same day and the sd boat or the sd Wm Kelly or any of the 
crew having not arrived at their sd destined port or been
heard of since it is therefore presumed he & they perished in
the sd storm and no will appearing and the next of kin
having refused to sue out letters of administration
unto the sd Wm Kelly the court there upon the
application of Mr Robt Heywood of Douglas merchant as
principal creditor the court for the preservation of the rights of creditors & of all of those
who may be interested in the estate of the sd Wm Kelly
hath decreed the sd Robt Heywood administrator in
trust of all and singular the goods chattles credits orders rights
& effects of the sd intestate whereupon he is sworn
well & truely to administer the sd intestate's goods
chattles credits rights & effects to pay all his just
debts so far forth as such goods & effects will extend &
the law shall bind him to return a true & perfect
inventory and account [of the] sales of such goods & effects to
the registry of this court and to be accountable for his
said administration when thereunto lawfully required and to
these ends he hath given pledges in form of law namely
Richard Clague dep. seneschal and John Gell jnr of
Kinnah in Kk German

The father is most likely John Kelly buried Kk Michael 15 Feb 1785 - as he is alive in late 1784 and successfully bids for his son's goods but is dead by 8 Aug when Robt Heywood proceeds against the administrators of his estate for the payment thereof.
