Archdeacon Wills 1779 #65, Maughold, of Mary Callow alias Christian, wife of William Callow of Balnykilley, Maughold:

‘In the name of God, amen. I Mary Callow alias Christian wife of William Callow of Balnykilley in the parish of KK Maughold, being at present weak and infirm in body, but of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, do make my last will and testament in manner and form following: First, I commit my soul to God and my body to Christian burial. Secondly, I leave and bequeath the sum of ten pounds apiece unto each of my children vizt., William, John, Mary, Jane, Catharine, & Betty, as legacy. Lastly, I nominate constitute and appoint my loving husband William Callow sole executor and residuary legatee of all the rest of my effects movable and immovable of what kind or nature soever, and ordain and appoint my said husband guardian over my said children, committing my said children and their respective legacies unto the care and tuition of my said husband until they arrive at the age of fourteen years. In witness whereof I have caused my mark to be affixed to my name this 14th December 1778. [signed her mark] Mary Callow. Witnesses: William Cubbon, William Christian.

At a Chapter Court holden at Lezayre October 26th, 1776, the executor is sworn in Court in form of Law and also guardian and supervisor over the children pursuant to the will, and agrees that the children shall have the whole of their mother’s apparel. Pledges for the payment of debts and legacies are John Kerruish Booilleevelt, & William Cowle Magher[?] of Kew both of KK Maughold.’
