Archdeacon Wills 1778 #59, Jurby, of Catharine Lace als Teare, wife of Captain John Lace of Sartfield, Jurby:

‘In the name of God, amen. I Catharine Lace otherwise Tear, the wife of Captain John Lace of Sartfield in the parish of Jurby, being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory (praised be God for the same) and considering and calling to mind the uncertainty of this mortal life, do therefor make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following. First, I commit my soul to God, and my body to a Christian burial to be interred in a decent and Christian manner by my executors hereinafter named, hoping through the merits of my blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for a joyful resurrection and a full & free pardon of all my sins. Item, I leave and bequeath to my eldest son & heir John Lace the sum of five pounds currency as legacy. Item, I leave and bequeath to my second son William Lace the sum of five pounds currency as legacy, in case he cometh to this Island to receive the same himself. But if he doth not come to this Island to receive the said sum, then I only leave and bequeath to him but six pence legacy. Item, I leave and bequeath to my daughter Anne the wife of John Kaighin of KK Michael, the sum of ten pounds currency, and also all my shaped wearing apparel both linen and woolen, as legacy. Item, I order that neither of my said three children shall be brought to make oath upon account of any of my goods & chattels by my executors hereinafter named. Lastly, I do hereby leave and bequeath all the rest, residue and remainder of all and every my goods, chattels, credits and effects moveable and immoveable of what kind or nature soever to my loving husband John Lace and to my youngest son Daniel Lace. And I do also nominate, ordain and appoint them, namely my said loving husband John Lace and my said youngest son Daniel Lace my sole executors of this my last will and testament. And I do by these presents annihilate, revoke and make void all former xxx writings made to the contrary of this my only last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my subscription and mark to my name this the twenty second day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven. At a Chapter Court holden at KK Michael May 21st, 1778, the Executors are sworn in Court in form of Law to be true and just the one to the other in the division of the effects, and have given pledges for the payment of debts and legacies, vizt., the Revd. William Cubbin of Jurby & James Cain of Peeltown.

1780, January 3rd, I John Kaighin husband of the within named Ann do hereby acknowledge to have received and be fully paid the sum of ten pounds and also all the shaped wearing apparel both linen and woolen of the testator Catharine Lace the same being a legacy bequeathed to my said wife by the last will of her said mother Catharine Lace, and I do hereby acquit, release, exonerate and discharge the executors of the said Testator Catharine Lace of this sum of ten pounds and all the shaped wearing apparel bot linen and woolen, as witness my subscription the day and year above written.
