Archdeacon Wills 1776 #98, Maughold, of John Christian of Balnakilley, Maughold, made 19 Jul 1773:

‘In the name of God, amen. I John Christian of Balnakilley in the parish of KK Maughold, calling to mind the uncertainties of this transitory life, and being of sound mind and memory, do make, publish and declare this my only last will and testament in manner and form following: First, I commit my soul to God and my body to a Christian burial. Item, I leave and bequeath to my two grandsons, namely Robert Christian and John Christian, half a guinea each, vizt., Robert Christian aforesaid to buy a Book of Divinity with the said half guinea, and the said John Christian to buy a Navigation Book with the half guinea bequeathed unto him. Lastly, I do hereby revoke all former wills or writings made by me to the contrary of this my only last will and testament, and do hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my daughter Mary Callow alias Christian whole and sole executrix and residuary legatee of all the rest of my goods and effects of what kind or nature soever. As witness my subscription this 19th July 1773. [signed] Jon. Christian. Witnesses: John Logan, William Christian.

At a Chapter Court holden at Lezayre November 13th, 1776, the executor is sworn in Court in form of Law and hath given pledges for the payment of debts and legacies namely William Christian of Balterson and John Logan both of KK Maughold.

November 8th, 1777, William Callow & Cathrine his wife; Daniel Callow and Catharine his wife enter a claim against the executors of John Christian for the sum of 80 pounds and crave the law.’
