Archdeacon Wills 1767 #7, Santon, of Elizabeth Moore als Moore, widow of John Moore of Balnahow, Santon:

‘Know all men by these presents, that I Elizabeth Moore otherwise Moore, widow, relict and executrix of John Moore of Ballnehow in the Parish of KK Santan, divers good causes and sundry considerations me hereunto moving, but more especially of the good will and natural love and affection which I do bear unto my well beloved children namely Christopher Bridson of Ballavarvane in the Parish of KK Malew and Margaret his wife (with whom I now live and reside) and John Bridson his brother in the town of Douglas, shoemaker, and Elizabeth his wife on whom I both now chiefly depend in my old age, declining years, and feeble condition, have given, granted, settled, demised and gifted and do by these presents give, grant, settle, demise and gift upon them the said Christopher Bridson & Margaret his wife and John Bridson and Elizabeth his wife and each of their heirs, executors, administrators and assigns all my worldly and personal estate of goods, chattels, credits and effects, vizt., houses, lands, tenements, cash, bonds, notes, mortgages, and other moveables, and household furniture of what kind or denominations soever, that I am now possessed of or shall be hereafter possessed of in any town or parish within this Island (save and except my widow right in the said estate of tenement of Ballnehow, which I hereby reserve for my own private use and during my natural life), they the said Christopher Bridson and Margaret his wife and John Bridson & Elizabeth his wife, their heirs, executors, administrators and assigns holding the same to their own proper use and benefit and also yielding and paying yearly and every year the annual Lord’s Rent with all other dues payable out of the said premises and in consideration of this my Deed of Gift and Settlement aforesaid, they the said Christopher Bridson & Margaret his wife and John Bridson & Elizabeth his wife, their heirs, executors, administrators and assigns doth firmly by these presents bind and oblige themselves decently to maintain and support me the said Elizabeth Moore with sufficient meat, drink, washing and lodging suitable to my circumstance and station, for and during my natural life, and also to pay unto me equally yearly and every year the sum of ten pounds for pocket money or other conveniences as my occasions may require and for such purposes as I shall in my life time think proper to dispose of the same, and also to pay unto my son John Moore and daughter Isable Kissack widow the full and just sum of ten pounds each after my decease over and above what they are entitled unto by the death of their father, and whatever further personal effects and goods I am then possess of at the time of my decease as aforesaid, the same to be wholy the property of the said Christopher Bridson and Margaret his wife and John Bridson and Elizabeth his wife, save and except all my clothes and wearing apparel which is to be equally divided between my three daughters, namely the said Isable Kissack, Margaret Bridson, and Elizabeth Bridson, and I to manifest this to be my true Deed of Gift and Settlement of the premises I have caused --- possession and investigation of the same to be given by delivering them the said Christopher Bridson & Margaret his wife and John Bridson & Elizabeth his wife equally two pieces of silver called an English half crown. And for the true and faithful performance of every a--, condition, sentence and clause herein contained, I the said Elizabeth Moore als Moore on the one part and Christopher Bridson and Margaret my wife and John Bridson and Elizabeth my wife, our heirs, executors, administrators and assigns on the other part hereby bound and obliged ourselves each to the other in and under penalty and forfeiture of five hundred pounds to be pain and --- in nature of all fines within this Isle in testimony wherein we have subscribed our names and marks and affixed our seals this fourth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty and six years, 1766. [signed her mark] Elizabeth Moore als Moore; [signed] Christopher Bridson], [signed her mark] Margaret Bridson, [signed] John Bridson, Elisabeth Bridson. Witnesses: Christopher Bridson, Henry Kermode, Thomas Fargher. September 12th, 1766, Christopher Bridson & Mr. Thomas Farher made oath on the Holy Evangelists that they were personally by and present when Elizabeth Moore, Margaret Bridson, & Elizabeth Bridson signed executed the before written Deed of Gift and Settlement and Christopher Bridson & John Bridson acknowledge the same to be their proper Act and Deed. At a Court of Correction holden at Castletown February 18, 1767, the before going Deed of Gift having been acknowledged and proved before the Deemster, the same is accepted as and for the last will and testament of Elizabeth Moore, and Christopher Bridson & John Bridson the Donees are sworn for payment of debts and legacies and have given pledges in form of Law namely Capt. Matthias Taggart and John Quayle (Cooper) both of Castletown. Whereas sundry disputes hath hitherto subsisted John Moore of Peeltown Cooper on the one part and --- and John Bridson donees and executors to Elizabeth Moore’s estate of Ballnehow in the parish of KK Santan on the other part, for and touching son legacies due and payable unto him the said John Moore on the death of his father the late John Moore of Ballnehow, also by the death of his said mother Elizabeth Moore for and touching sundry sp-- passed by him the said John Moore to his said father and since his said father and mother --- unto him the said Chiristopher Bridson and in --- to lay all such differences aside, the above parties have respectively agreed, that the said Christopher Bridson for and in behalf of himself and also in behalf of John Bridson aforesaid doth promise and oblige himself to pay unto the said John Moore his brother the full and just sum of five pounds currency of this Isle, in full of all orders legacies dues and --- which he is in any respect entitled unto by the decease of his said father and mother John Moore, and Elizabeth, together with all notes, bonds and specialties which Christopher Bridson hath in his custody and possession due and payable by the said John Moore which is hereby to be --- and upon --- of the said five pounds as aforesaid each party by these presents do hereby acquit, exonerate and discharge the other of any further dues and demands for and touching any further claim whatsoever in cons-- of the death of their father and mother the said John and Elizabeth Moore, and this in penalty of --- pounds to be paid according to the laws of this Isle in witness whereof they have subscribed their names this 9th of August 1769. [signed] John Moore, Christopher Bridson. Witnesses: Robert Bancks, -- Fargher. I have received the sum of five pounds within mentioned as witness my hand this 9th August 1769. [signed] John Moore. August 9th, 1796, John Moore & Christopher Bridson acknowledged the within agreement as their mutual Act and Deed and the said John Moore acknowledged the above receipt. To the Revd Robert Radcliffef & Matthias Curghey Vicar Generals of this Isle, the humble petition of Christopher Bridson of the Parish of KK Malew and John Bridson of Douglas, Sheweth that your Petitioners’ mother in law Elizabeth Moore of Ballnehow widow in the Parish of Santan late deceased, having by Deed of Gift and Settlement before her death settled and estated upon your petitioners wives all her worldly substance, goods, and effects, moveable and immoveable of what kind or denominations whatever, Your Petitioners further shew that in --- thereof the said Deed was by your Reverences (at the last Courts held at Castletown) received for the last will and testament of the said deceased Elizabeth Moore; And forasmuch s the Deed of Gift is not yet received the legal confirmation requisite by the Temporal Courts of this Isle to entitle your petitioners to procure legally by several concerns of lands and houses --- conveyed, your petitioners therefore petition your Reverences would be pleased according to the custom and practice in such cases to order the Revd Archdeacons Register to deliver and give up unto your Petitioners the said original Deed and to retain upon his Registry a true copy thereof whereby the same may receive the qualifications requisite by the Temporal Courts of this Isle on your Petitioners as bound. At KK Patrick, April 17th, 1767, the Revd. Mr. Gill Archdeacon’s Registry is hereby desired to deliver unto the Petitioners the Deed of Gift which was accepted for the last Will and Testament of Elizabeth Moore of Balnehow that the same may receive confirmation and other requisites according to Law, having first taken an exact copy of the said Deed & acceptance & securing the same on the Registry.’
