‘In the name of God, Amen. I Joanna Woods als Cowle, relict of the late Revd. I leave to each of my grandchildren half a crown apiece: excepting my granddaughter Anne & grandson John Woods, to whom I leave ten shillings each. I leave to the poor of the parish of KK Maughold, one British Crown. Lastly, I nominate and appoint my affection son, Revd. Thomas W. J. Woods sole and whole executor of this my last will, and residuary legatee of all the rest of my goods and chattels of what kind or nature soever. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto put my mark to my name this 21st day of January 1766. [signed her mark] Joanna Woods als Cowle. Witnesses: John Bridson, James Cottier.

At a Court of Correction held at Lezayre, March 10th 1766, the executor is sworn in Court of law and hath given pledges for payment of debts and legacies, namely Philip xxx and John Cowle, both of the parish of Lezayre.’
