This day previously appeared before me the Revd Robert Radcliffe
Vicar General of this Isle, John Lewin of the town of Douglas within said Isle
mariner and made oath on the Holy Evangelist & said that about nine years ago he
this deponent was impressed into his Majesty's service in which service he continued till
November last past. That about a year after this deponent was so impressed, as afsd
which is now about eight years ago he this deponent was stationed on board one of
his Majesty's ships of war called the Dublin. That about three or four years
afterwards one Thomas Cubbon (son of John Cubbon of Ballnaquinney beg in the
parish of Kk Marown within the said Isle late decd & Ann Cubbon als Clucas
of said place still living) was also impressed, stationed & put on board the said ship
of war the Dublin, where this deponent & he the said Thomas Cubbon continued till
the latter end of the year one thousand seven hundred & sixty one or two
but which this deponent is not positive of, during which time he the said Thos
Cubbon and the deponent were very intimate, and this depont further saith that
he the said Thomas Cubbon being taken very ill sometime in the latter end of
said years when the said ship of war Dublin was lying upon Fort Royal in the the
Island of Martinico, the said Thomas Cubbon was sent to the Kings
Hospital in said Island to be taken care of till he had recovered. That after the said
Thomas Cubbon was sent to the hospital as aforesaid, the ship of war the
Dublin made a cruize off Highspaniola on which they contined near three months
after which they returned to Fort Royal, when & where this deponent made the
strictesrt enquiry for his old friend acquaintances & counry man the said Thomas
Cubbon. And was there told by persons who belonged to said ship that were in said
hospital at the same time that the said Thomas Cubbon was dead & buried about
two or three weeks before their return which this deponent truely believes to be
true - In witness whereof I have hereunto caused my name & mark to be
