Archdeacon Will 1760 #38, Andreas, of John Lace of Ballaseir died 1 February 1760, & of Alice Lace his wife, died January 1760:

The last will and testament of John Lace of the parish of KK Andreas who departed this life the 1st of February last being at perfect mind and memory at the making thereof. First, he committed his soul to God and body to Christian burial. Item, he left to his daughter Christian Lace eight pounds, a feather bed, the bees that John Kneale has on the halfs, and all the goods belonging to her or already named upon her. Item, he left to his grandchildren John and Joney Cormoad one of the bee hives at present in his garden and two white sheep or ewes. Item, he left to John Lace his son and heir three bee hives which was likewise in his garden. Item, he left to his grandson Charles Lace a Loughton ewe of two years old. Item, he left to his grandson William Lace a white ram or tupp. Item, he left to his grandson Joseph Lace a kear sheep. Item, he left to his daughter Margaret William Kneale’s wife the bees in William Kneale’s keeping or that he has upon the halfs. Item, he left to his two grandchildren Margaret & Jane Kneale a brown cow and his son Arthur Lace to put the same out for the best advantage for the use of the said grandchildren. Item, he appointed his son in law William Kneale to work and till his farm, the Testator’s son Arthur Lace at the making of this Will offered to drive the plow, and in case the said William Kneale refused to comply thereto or work the farm alone with his brother in law the said Arthur Lace was to be sole Executor and the beasts and gears to be with William Kneale to work or cultivate the farm of ground. Item, Alice lace wife of the Testator being sick and lying both in the same bed consented that her part or right of the goods should fall and descend in every respect as her husband John Lace had willed and the same to pass as her last will and testament, to which she gave her hand to the witnesses and desired them to remember that the same was her last will. Item, or at the same time he the said John Lace appointed his son Arthur Lace and his daughter Margaret Kneale als Lace joint and whole Executors of all the rest of his goods moveable and immoveable of what nature soever and to the Witnesses of this his last will and testament he left six pence. Witnesses: Michael Kneen, William Claitor.

William Cleator on of the witnesses declares that some days after the foregoing will was made, and upon the day that Alice Lace the Testator lay a corpse in the house, he the Declared went to see John Lace the Testator who asked this Declarant whether he and his wife had left the speckled to their daughter Christian, and the Declarant answering they had not he the said John Lace said he left his part of said speckled cow to his said daughter Christian. At a Consistory Court holden at Lezayre, March 27th, 1760: Arthur Lace and William Kneale husband of Margaret are sworn Executors of the last Will and Testaments of John Lace and Alice Lace the Testators, and have given pledges for payment of debts and legacies namely Charles Cowle of Ramsey and John Lace of Ballaseir in KK Andrews, for Arthur Lace; and William Radcliffe & Danile Sayle both of KK Andrews for William Kneale.

At a Consistory Court holden at KK Michael November 14th 1760: William Kneale father of the within mentioned grandchildren of John & Alice Lace late of Ballaseir in the parish of KK Andreas hath this day given in pledges to the Court for the value of the within appraisement as also for the forthcoming of whatever increase or kind the said cow shall have for the benefit and best advantage and use of the said children when they arrive at age, and this by the consent of Arthur Lace trustee specially appointed for that purpose by the last will and testament of the said John & Alice Lace; the pledges for that end are John Cowle of the Kella & William Goldsmith of Balladoole in Lezaire.

To be annexed to the Wills of John Lace & Alice his wife of Balla-Seir of KK Andrews to be forthcoming to their grandchildren pursuant to the Revd. Courts order given at Lezaire’s Correction Court in the xxxx 1760 is as followeth: We whose names ensue being four sworn men in pursuance of said order and by virtue of the Revd Matthias Curghy’s token at the suit of William Kneale father to the aforesaid grandchildren Margaret & Jane Kneale to aprize a cow to be forthcoming to them as aforesaid and after having viewed said cow (which was then in the said Father’s keeping) do parise her to three pounds and three shillings as witness our names & marks this 18th day of November 1760. 10th June 1761: A True and perfect Inventory of the moveable goods which John Lace & Alice Lace his wife, of KK Andrews bequeathed to their grandchildren John Cormode & Joney Cormode, viewed and valued by four sworn men, vizt., William Kaneen, William Cottier, Michael Kaneen, & Daniel Dowll, as follows: First, a beehive containing two quarts and a pint of honey valued at one shilling per quart comes to 2 shillings 6 pence; Item, two sheep and a lamb valued at 8:0; Sum is 10 shillings 6 pence. 23rd November 1761: Delivered to Court at Lezayre by John Cormoad father of the two children mentioned above. To be annexed to the Will of John Lace Ballaseir KK Andreas."
