Archdeacon Wills 1742 #9, Braddan, of John McHood

In the name of God Amen. I John Mchood of the town of Douglas being at this time sick and infirm in body but of sound mind and perfect memory, praised be Almighty God for ye same, do make this my last will and testament in manner following.

I committ my soul to the hands of my most gracious and mercifull God, in full and certain hope of a joyfull and blessed ressurection of my body by and through the merits of my Blessed Saviour and redeemer Jesus Christ, and my body unto Christian burial and bequeath my wordly goods in manner following

I leave and bequeath unto Christopher Adam's son John, the brewhouse and what ground belongs to it if my wife consents thereunto, or otherwise ye one half of all my houses and what other ground belongs to them with twenty pounds in cash, as also my watch and buckles and my wearing apparell both linnen and woollen as legacy - and if he doth not live to the age of fourteen years then and in that case all ye above legacy shall fall and descend to his aunt's son in Dublin.

I bequeath to my aunt Sarah White ten pounds British to be left under the care of the Rev Phi: Moore, to be put out at interest, in some safe hand for her use and to pay her the said Sarah out of the said principle and interest, twenty shillings British yearly, whilst it shall last, and if any remains after her death, it shall fall to and for the use of the poor of the town of Douglas.

I leave and bequest to my wife Ann Mchood all the rest of my effects moveable and immoveable of what kind or denomination soever and constitute and appoint her my whole and sole execx In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this 30th day of March Ano 1742 [signed] John Mchood

At the signing of the above will the testator appointed the Revd Phi: Moore or whoever will be chaplain in town to be guardian over ye above John Adams.

At Douglas May 17 1742

Ann Mchood the widow is sworn exectx in form of law and gave pledges for payment of the debts & legacys viz the Revd Mr Rob Radcliff & Mr Philip Finch The Exectx consents that John Adams son of Christopher Adams shall have her half of the brewhouse and of the land belonging to it when he arrives at fouteen years of age pursuant to the will.
