Archdeacon Wills 1740/1 #99, Rushen, of Elizabeth Gawne [alias Maddrell], died 13 Dec 1740:

‘The last will and testament of Elizabeth Gawn of KK Christ Rushen who departed this life being in perfect mind and memory the 13th December 1740. First, she committed her soul to God and her body to Christian burial. Item, she bequeathed to her son Thomas ten shillings and to her Sons Henry & Edward each twenty shillings. Item, to her daughter Margaret ten shillings and her best suit of clothes, vizt., a blue gown , a blue petticoat and a white flannel petticoat together with all the husbandry gears and to her granddaughter Anne Keiggeen a sheep and lamb. Item, she willed that if either of her sons Henry or Edward should die the other that survived should receive and have his goods. Item, to her three sons and daughters before mentioned all the corn and that if Mr. William Stole of Ballasalley would be so disposed he might have the tuition of her son Edward, and also the benefit of his part of the goods till he came of age and likewise Mr. Gawn senior of Ballagawn her son Henry after the same manner, and whosoever should be displeased at the will were to be cut off with six pence legacy. Lastly, she nominated and appointed her five children Thomas, Henry, Edward, Margaret & Jane joint and sole executors of all the rest of her goods whatsoever moveable and immoveable. Published and pronounced in presence of us Witnesses: Isabel Crebbin, Ann Waterson. Harry & Edward two of the executors being under age, Thomas and Margaret with John Cottiman husband of Jane Waterson are sworn in Court in form of Law as also overseers of the orphans and have given pledges vizt., Patrick Crellin and William Kinley.’
