Archdeacon Will 1724 #94 Braddan, of John Gelling of Douglas, Braddan,

"Douglass: The last will and testament of John Gelling of the town of Douglas who departed this life the 2d day of November 1724 is as followeth. In the name of God, amen, being very weak in body but of sound mind and memory. First he committed his soul into the car and protection of Almighty God that gave it and his mortal body to the earth from whence it came and to be buried after a decent Christian manner, and as for his worldly goods as it was pleased God to endue him with after the following manner. Imprimis, he bequeathed unto his beloved wife Margret Gelling alias Kneal all his houses and also all his other effects whatsoever, moveable and immoveable, during her own natural life; and also ordained, and appointed his said wife whole and sole Executor, and as for his son Charles Gelling, he cut him clear of him having any part or share in his own part, or xxx share of the houses, for ever, but appointed and bequeathed unto him the said Charles Gelling his son fifty shillings legacy, to be paid in money, by the rest of his sons. That is to say to be paid unto him from his brother John, or his assigns, the sum of twenty shillings, and from his brothr Paul the sum of ten shillings, and from his brother William or any of their assigns the sum of twenty shillings, and all which said sums not to be paid until the decease of his said wife Margret Gelling, and this we affirm to be the last will and testament of the aforesaid deceased John Gelling, as xxxxxx our names and marks. The witnesses present to the same will: William Cotter his mark X, William Farrant his mark, jurati.. The Executrix sworn in form of Law. Probatum est & Solvit 1s. Pledges to secure ye office and pay all debts and legacies John Hendricks & John Clark."
