Deed of Sale between William Bridson and George Redfern, 1788

Know all men by these presents that I
William Bridson of the town of Douglas Merchant by
and with the full consent of Ann Bridson alias Cosnahan
my wife for and in consideration of the sum of sixty
pounds British to me in hand paid at the execution of
these presents by George Redfern of the town of Douglas
sailmaker have given granted bargained and sold
aliened and confirmed and by these presents do
grant bargain and sell alien and confirm unto him
the said George Redfern all and singular that dwelling
house situate on the southside of the harbour of Douglas
being the north east house of the concerns formerly the
property of Mr John Edmundson and wherein Thomas
Kermod brewer now lives, the premises being Abbey
lands part of the Nunnery How, of the annual chief
rent of one half penny and adjoining the public quay
on the north, the said George Redfern's rent being the
dwelling house wherein William Armstrong now lives
on the south & the rent of Mr John Woodhouse on the
west. Together with all streets ways wastes and
water courses, easements, liberties, rights, members and
appurtenances to the hereby granted & sold premises
belonging or in any wise appertaining. To have and
to hold the hereby granted and sold premises unto
him the said George Redfern and his heirs and assigns
to the only proper use and behoof of him the said George
Redfern and his heirs and assigns from the 12th day of
May next for ever yielding and paying the chief
rent with all boons suits and services annually incumbent
on the said presemises. And I the said William Bridson
with the consent of my wife aforesaid do hereby covenant
and grant by these presents that I have good right & full
power to grant & convey the premises in manner aforesd

This George Redfern died, intestate, in 1822 - in the administration of his estate described as 'of the Howeside'
