The author in his tour of the Island was accompanied by Thomas Scott, brother of Sir Walter the poet. His notes on the mines and mining are valuable, especially on the historical side. He had the advantage of the help of the Rev. W. Fitzsimmons and William Geneste, the former giving him help with the local nomenclature and the latter some notes on mining. The work is now scarce.
