THE ORDER OF CLASSIFICATION OF THE LIBRARY

The Scheme of classification adopted in the Library of the Manx Museum is that of James Duff Brown, the Librarian of the Clerkenwell Public Library, London. Among the many systen in use, the 'Adjustable' classification scheme originated by Mr. Brown seemed to the compiler, from his experience as the Borough Librarian of Douglas, to be the one best adapted to the Library of the Manx Museum, having in view its well-defined scope.
