WOODCOCK family, Douglas photographers
My 2 x great grandparents were Francis Woodcock and Margaret nee Shields. Francis born c 1840 was a photographer and moved from Preston in Lancashire to laxey. He bought land from John Senhouse Goldie-Taubman and had his house and studio built on Douglas head. The house was Stanley House.
Francis had five children. Francis Albert, Margaret, Emily Jane,Albert Douglas and May Blanche Beatrice. Francis Albert born 1863 in Preston Lancashire was also a photographer in Douglas at 1 Allan street Douglas. Francis Albert married Catherine Houston and had 15 children, some born on the Island and some in Liverpool were he also had a studio.
