If you know the details of your emigrant ancestor, the information can be entered in our "strays file" which shows detail of a Manx-born person who died, married or is recorded on a census in another place. It was usual for the new country of residence to record the details of origin when the person arrived. The Isle of Man rarely kept records of those who left the Island. The strays file may provide information that will help other members and yourself.

*****PLEASE RETAIN THIS SECTION OF THE FORM***** The Isle of Man Family History Society was formed in January 1979 to encourage the study of genealogy and family history, particularly within the Isle of Man. Being a member of the society benefits all those researching their families, whether they are Manx born or not. Members living abroad will find it rewarding to discover their Island heritage in this manner. We hold most of our monthly meetings on the 3rd Friday of each month at the Union Mills Methodist Church Hall, where there is ample car parking, commencing at 7:30 PM. An exhibition and open days are usually held each year, where we display family trees of members, and copies of our publications. Members of the society continue to transcribe and publish vital records for the benefit of all members. We also have a display of our work at the "Homecomer's Marquee" on Tynwald Day each year, which provides an opportunity to welcome our members who may visit the Island at that time. For persons living in the Isle of Man whose ancestry is not Manx, our society library holds the "International Genealogical Index" (IGI) on microfiche for all of the British Isles, and other places in the world. Our library is located at Derby Lodge, Derby Road, Peel Isle of Man IM5 1HH. Please contact the librarian for opening times on 01624-843105.
