Re: re family name Crum
In Response To: re family name Crum ()

Hi Judy,

My great-grandmother Margaret Kewish married a George Stephen Crum, but as far as I have established, he was born in Landogo, Monmouthshire, Wales in 1849. This fact came from a Crum family tree on Ancestry.co.uk, which had attached a memorial of his death in Ashburton, NZ in 1919.

I've just had another look at that tree, and he had a brother John, who also emigrated to NZ and died there in 1918. John had a daughter Annie - but she was born 1865.

I can't see any other Annie Crum in that tree, but if you have access to Ancestry, perhaps the tree owner might know if any other branches of the family emigrated earlier.

Not much help, I'm afraid, as Crums come from all over Britain. There is a Crum family from Thornliebank near where I live (Renfrewshire, Scotland) - I think they are in Burke's Landed Gentry and the Mirchell Library may have family papers for them (I read about that somewhere) so it might be worth trying that family for an Annie. Were your Cunninghams from the West of Scotland? There was a Cunningham family of Craigends, Houston near here. so those two families might have known each other.
