Casement family

Hi,
We returned from a useful visit to the Island, with plenty of trips to the beach for Anastasia when it was sunny and to tbe MM for me when it wasn't.

I concentrated on Elizabeth/Eliza Corlett, who was baptised 14 Oct 1788 at Lezayre to John Corlett, CP and Ann Casement. Ann was a mystery, and Nigel Crowe mentioned all that seemed clear was that she was was born in Ireland per the 1841 census. She married John Corlett at Lezayre on 7 July 1787 and was shown as of Patrick parish. In 1786, an Ann Casement of Ballanderry, Co Antrim and Patrick sold 3 parcels of the Ballaleece estate in Patrick for over £300 (a lot in those days). In Feb 1790, John & Ann Corlett sold a bigger portion of Ballaleece, so it seems clear that the 1786 girl from Ballanderry (now Ballinderry) is the right candidate.

J A Brew suggests Ann was the daughter of Ewan (Hugh) Casement (1720-1797) who was born on the Island to William Casement by his second wide, Mary Thomasson or Thomason, who was the daughter of the late vicar of Magheragal in Co Antrim. Ewan was the eldest son, the previous marriage only having daughters, and moved to Ireland where Brew says his family included Ann and a brother, Roger Casement, (an ancestor of the Sir Roger Casement executed in 1916 for gun running to the IRA).

I am happy with Ann herself, but can anyone throw any further light on her parents, who seem to be Ewan Casement and his wife Elizabeth Higginson, but I have no firm proof of this yet. Ballanderry or Ballinderry in Co Antrim is just to the east of Crumlin, but I have not yet sussed out Magheragal from the various "Magheras" in Co Antrim.
