Re: TAYLOR & GILL
In Response To: Re: TAYLOR & GILL ()

Hugh Gill was my great grandfather's brother. His name was Thomas Gill. Together with his father and mother he left the IOM, arriving in Australia in 1851.

The voyage out was long and there was smallpox on board.

The ownership of Narradale was passed to Hugh in return for, I think, a consideration of 60 pounds. Hugh had the Mill at Milnebridge or sometimes called Sulby Mill.

Two of Thomas's Brothers, Jack and Bill left Australia to try their luck in South Africa and have since disappeared.

Thomas Gill married Jane Purvis, from Edinburgh, and they farmed in the upper Goulburne Valley.
