I guess the example I found might have been a mis formation from garner.

There were a few examples of the family name Gardner (or similar) found in the early officials at Peel Castle but they were probably from off the Island (eg Lancashire) as the Stanley Lords often gave positions of trust to junior members of their tenant families - as they do not seem to appear in any list of property owners it would appear they returned home after their tour of duty.
