Re: JOUGHIN Andreas
In Response To: Re: JOUGHIN Andreas ()

Hi Donna,

A lot of very early trees in the USA "adopted" (stole?) John JOUGHIN 1677-1738 as being the one who married Bahee LACE Ballaseyr, and had numerous descendants from their children Charles, Nelly, Anne & John. I think it was because their real father John JOUGHIN 1672-1709 died so young. [John Joughin "perished at sea coming from Scotland".]

But if they had researched a little bit further they would have seen that Andreas Confirmations have "Charles, son of John Joughin Decd" in 1718. Additionally John's father's will [Charles Joughin died 17 Feb. 1723/24] mentions the money owing from the execrs of John Joughin. So it is clear that John son of Charles, (and father of Charles) had died before these dates. - And there was his 1709 decree, naming his children.

Then, having made that error, the tree makers merged all the children of the two Johns into the one family (which was tricky when John from one family married Ann from the other!). There are a number of people on this BB who descend from that union, including me.

I'd send you the files, but your email still rejects my home address! Most of the info is in the BB archived messages.
