Hello Dawn,

You won't infringe copyright if the copy is for your own personal use, and you are not going to distribute the photo or use it in a printed publication or on the web. Under these conditions you are permitted to copy single items like a photo, or a couple of pages of a book, but the difficulty would be finding someone who has the book, because anywhere that sells it wouldn't photocopy any part of it. If you were in the UK your best bet would be inter-library loan, but the book is unlikely to be in NZ. You could try a library with a large genealogy collection, like Auckland Public Library - if not there you could ask them if there is any chance of getting it, because most libraries accept suggestions for acquisitions, and a lot of Manx emigrated to NZ. You could also try asking the Manx National Heritage Library (at MM) saying that you live in NZ, and for personal use, etc., but they also have a bookshop there so may refuse.
