Re: James Brown of the Garey 1813

Hi,

I have made what I hope is a little more progress on the Scottish Browns. I think our James Brown who famred the Kimmeragh in 1823 was farming "the Garey" in 1814 (which Garey ? Lezayre or Bride ????).

This 1814 guy had a brother, John who farmed Ballaveir.Ballavair in association with anotehr Scots famer, John Scott.

He apparently married Jane Moore of Bride parish on 14-10-1817. Their daughter Mary Jane Brown was privately baptised 7 Feb 1818, and "received into the church" 27 Sept 1818

John Brown died about 6 Nov 1818, and there is an entry in ANDREAS for a John Browne of unspecified age buried 8 Nov 1818.

I think this guy MAY be the brother of our Scottish James. Margaret Kelly in her "Twas thus and Thus they lived" says that he made a will in Jan 1814 in which he named his mother Mary Brown of ANcrum Jedburgh as legatee, but this was superceded by a Non Cupative will relating to his new family. Does anyone have any details of the 1814 will or the proceedings for the 1818 non cupative will where his brother James decined executorship in favour of the wife ?

Robert
