Re: Letitia Gelling, anc. of Letitia Jane Morrison
In Response To: Re: Morrison ()

I'm reviewing the tree from Donna from Mar 23 and have some questions. I'll separate them rather than put them all into one note.

First question is I'm curious how you determined that the Letitia GELLING who married Thomas Craine in 1786 Ballaugh is the Letitia bp 1750 youngest d of Thomas GELLING & Alice SMITH. I had picked the Letitia bp 1762, eldest d of Thomas & Alice's son Daniel GELLING bp 1734 St Mathews Douglas, who married Elizabeth LACE in 1760 Andreas.

Letitia's 1793 will, which is transcribed, has as two of the three witnesses John Caesar GELLING and Charlotte GELLING. I assumed they were younger siblings of Letitia bapt 1773 and 1779. The latter is only 14, though, which seems young to be a witness.

There is a marriage of a Thomas CRAINE to Mary COWELL 9 Oct 1798 Ballaugh. Ballaugh was where Letitia was buried 4 years earlier. This might be a second marriage but I haven't checked it out. Thomas may have made the 1841 census, if he's the one at Dollough Beg, Ballaugh age 73 with 4 much younger Crains listed. Burial: CRAINE, Thomas 80 Bal 18 Aug 1848, with a Will.
