Re: boyde family
In Response To: boyde family ()

You should bear in mind that round about 1808/1809 the surname Boddaugh/Bodaugh/Boddagh/Bodagh changes it's spelling to Boyde...

I imagine Boddaugh is pronounced something like 'Bodda'.

The last Boddaugh recorded in the Ballaugh baptisms is Wm., son of John Boddaugh and Mary Cannel, who was baptised in 1809. This couple, may well be the John Boyde and Margt. Cannel, who had a daughter, Margt., baptised in 1811.

There is also a baptism in the Kirk Michael records for a Philip Boddaugh, son of Dan’l & Anne Caine, baptised on 22nd May 1737. Their marriage, on 22nd May 1725 at Kirk Michael is recorded as: Dan’l Bodaugh of ye Ld Bsps Desmesn & Anne Cain (Ballatrooan).’ This Philip Boddaugh at least gives us a link to Bishop’s Demesne.

Bishop's Desmense residents cause a few problems, as they technically lived in Ballaugh parish, but for a while attended the nearer church in Kirk Michael, therefore the baptism records jump between the two parishes of Michael and Ballaugh.
