Re: SAILING PORTADOWN TO ISLE OF MAN

Portadown is I think about 30 miles to the nearest IRISH
harbour & so a good day's journey. Given the right winds & waves it would , I am sure ,have been possible
to reach the island in daylight in the 19c.
My grandfather told me he sailed Ramsey to Whitehaven in
Cumbria ,England using oars to help out if stuck in a small fishing boat [very early 20c] Nowadays local folk in
smart sailing yachts go across from Ramsey to the nearest
harbour in Scotland for Sunday lunch. I suppose they do have auxilliary engines if the wind dies down.
